As we age, we start to notice more problems with circulation and the long-term effects of gravity. Varicose veins are enlarged and often twisted veins that are a result of swelling of the vein due to reduced blood flow. There are tons of different reasons that people develop varicose veins and this is one of the most common circulatory conditions that doctors regularly see.

Varicose veins can be painless, but unsightly, causing issues with self-esteem and body image. However, varicose veins can also be incredibly painful and thus limiting your ability to simply live your life. Thankfully, treatments have advanced dramatically as science and medical technology improves by leaps and bounds. There are a variety of different treatments that are effective at reducing the number of varicose veins, if not eliminate them entirely.

Laser treatment is one of the most popular and effective ways to treat varicose veins.

Laser treatment is not the fastest way to eliminate varicose veins, but it is highly effective and pretty simple in its basic concept. Lasers are focused beams of light. For treating varicose veins, a doctor uses this focused light to cause the body to develop scar tissue and close off the offending vein.

What happens then is that the varicose vein no longer receives any blood flow and the vein dies. This leads to, in the course of a couple of years, the vein to simply disappear.

There are two main types of laser treatment for varicose veins: simple treatment and endovenous treatment. Simple laser treatment is used for spider and varicose veins that are small and close to the surface of the skin.

For larger varicose veins or those that are farther under the skin, the endovenous option is likely to be used. This treatment is performed through the use of a thin catheter tube that is inserted into the vein. The doctor uses internal images seen on a duplex ultrasound screen to close off said veins.

This is a very popular form of treatment for varicose veins as it is less invasive and painful than some other types of treatment. There is also minimal recovery time, meaning that people can return to their daily activities without much limitation within a short period of time after the procedure is performed. This is a safe and effective way to treat varicose veins that are widely used and recommended by doctors around the nation.
